How Did This Happen?!

The Village of Libertyville Mayor and Trustees (most of who were replaced in the April elections) suspended their normally zealous oversight procedures and were much too willing to accommodate the Aldridge Electric Wind Turbine project by expeditiously passing four new ordinances without proper, professional noise studies or setback standards. Our main contention is too much noise occurs because of insufficient setback standards. People in Roxbury Maine are complaining about noise from a Wind Turbine setback 3,100 feet from the nearest residence. Folks, the Libertyville Wind Turbine is setback only 250 feet!

What Do We Want?

We believe the previous administration's support for the Wind Turbine project was uncharacteristically enthusiastic and expeditious in the passing of ordinances to permit the Wind Turbine installation so close to residential homes. We are counting on the present administration to:

  • Enforce the minimal standards adopted regarding noise, light flicker, etc.
  • Review how the Wind Turbine got relocated from its originally specified location, and
  • Review whether or not the ordinances can be rewritten to prevent proliferation of this unfortunate situation.

We simply want the Wind Turbine removed and relocated where we can't hear it,
with one caveat -- we don't wish this on anyone else's neighborhood either!

At the unveiling, Mayor Jeffrey Harger lauded Aldridge for installing the turbine, a move he said would put Libertyville "on the map". "It's something we need to be doing," Harger said.

Former Mayor Harger is President of Harger Lightning & Grounding, a company that markets to the wind turbine industry and exhibited at Windpower 2009 as did Aldridge Electric.

VILLAGE OF LIBERTYVILLE
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
February 24, 2009

ORDINANCE 09-0-14: Major Adjustments to Site Plan, 844 E. Rockland Road President Harger introduced an ordinance to amend the previously approved Site Plan for Aldridge Electric for a Special Use Permit for a Business Wind Turbine. The petitioner is proposing to relocate the wind turbine approximately 26 feet south and approximately 190 feet west of the approved location. The wind turbine will be located a distance of 250 feet from the rear property lines of the residences to the south. Staff recommended approval as the site will still meet the requirements of the Zoning Code and is consistent with Plan Commission direction for the site. The Mayor asked for Board comment. Trustee Johnson moved to approve the ordinance approving a Major Adjustment to a previously approved Site Plan for a Business Wind Turbine at 844 E. Rockland Road. Trustee Cullum seconded. The Mayor asked for Board and public comment. The motion carried on roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Trustees Lukens, Peron, Johnson, Proepper, Cullum, and Reszel
NAYS: None
